EP: 025 How To Be a “Modern Husband” w/ Brian Page
Managing your finances can sometimes be hard. So is managing the day to day demands of your household. Combining the two can be even more challenging. When couples have dual careers and kids it can be overwhelming to try to make it all work and can cause a great deal of stress in a relationship.
In this episode, I welcome Brian Page the founder of Modern Husbands. Brian shares his personal journey of changing course in his professional life due to a health scare and transitioning into playing a more supportive role at home to allow his wife's career to flourish.
Times are changing. Women are graduating college and entering the workforce at a greater rate than men. I see in my own planning practice a greater number of female "breadwinners" than ever before. So it only makes sense that gender roles within the household need to change as well. But how do we do that?
Brian started with the Google search "How to be a great husband?". He realized there weren't a lot of great resources out there for men to figure out how to be a supportive husband to a successful, career minded partner. So he set out to create a website and community to help.
WE TALK ABOUT:
- The overlap between managing money and managing a household.
- The importance of consistent communication and transparency.
- The "Fair Play System": What "Mental Load" is and why the sharing of mental load can be so impactful in a relationship.
- Understanding and addressing different spending habits.
- What "psychological money laundering" and "financial translucency" are.
- The importance of regular money and household meetings with your partner and the benefit of using tools like Tiller and shared calendars so everyone is on the same page.
- Why giving yourself permission to spend money on delegating things like housekeeping and other household task are worth the money!
- The impact of changing gender roles in marriage.
- The subtle art of meal prep.
- And much more...
